About the AAA level….
In Canada and perhaps the world, the Women’s Senior
AAA is the highest level of hockey for women to play.
Many future, current and former Team Canada, Team USA,
Team Finland, Team Switzerland, and Team Japan members
play in Canada’s top level leagues. The BC Outback
have had 3 invites to Team Canada U-22 from their roster.
The most of any BC team!
About the team….
The BC Outback is a AAA female hockey team made up of
players, ages 15-35, from all over rural British Columbia.
Historically, if players in British Columbia wanted to
play at the elite AAA level they had to move to Vancouver
or Calgary to be near one of the teams.
This season, we have attracted the top players from: Northern
BC (Dawson Creek), the Caribou (108 Mile House), the Okanagan
(Merritt, Penticton, Armstrong, Kamloops, Revelstoke,
Vernon, Kelowna), the Kootenay’s (Cranbrook, Kimberly,
Jaffray, Fairmont Hot Springs, Golden, Castlegar, Kaslo),
and the Island (Port Alberni). All the players remain
living at home while playing for the Outback and train
and play with their local teams.
The team’s season consists of tournaments and exhibition
play against University and other AAA teams found in larger
centers. We hold camps every 3 weeks in various towns
throughout rural BC, where we practice and play against
these teams in preparation for the Provincial and hopefully,
National Championships. The camps generate a lot of enthusiasm
in the communities, as they have never viewed female hockey
at this calibre.
